Ink Spell at the Rossendale Business Awards 2021

Wednesday 1st December saw the 12th annual showcase for the Rossendale Business Awards. This year’s ceremony was held at The Ashcroft in Whitworth and was officially opened by the Mayor of Whitworth, Councillor Maureen Jones and Deputy Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Anne Cheetham.

Organised by Valley at Work, the awards celebrate the best of business and enterprising people in the Rossendale Valley. This year’s ceremony was a sell-out event as finalists along with their friends and family gathered to celebrate the businesses that have survived - and even thrived - throughout the difficult past year.

And Ink Spell was one of them! It was fantastic and slightly surreal, as such a new business to be attending the awards for the very first time. My husband and two sons came along with me and we all had a great night, chatting to friends, meeting new people and enjoying the delicious buffet provided by Berni Inn and half-time entertainment from Dansworks.

Ink Spell made the finals in the ‘Part-Time Business’ category, sponsored by Winter Solicitors. The other finalists were Clare’s Cupcake Co, JJR Video Productions and Quality Time PA Services, with Quality Time PA Services winning on the night. I’m absolutely delighted for them along with all the other winners and felt so privileged and proud to even have been nominated, let alone to have made it through to the final round of judging!

It was great to be surrounded by so many inspiring people and to hear about how businesses have adapted and risen to the challenges of the last couple of years. It was particularly great to see so many other new businesses, who, like Ink Spell, only started out during the pandemic. When I first set up Ink Spell in February this year, I did wonder if I was bananas to be going freelance during such a turbulent time but to hear about all these other clever, brilliant and brave people doing the same thing definitely made me feel less alone and (slightly) less bananas!

A huge congratulations to all this year’s finalists and winners and a big thank you to everyone who nominated Ink Spell and who have supported me in this venture. Also a special thank you to Liz Henson Photography for capturing such fantastic photos on the night.

I can’t wait to frame and hang my certificate as a reminder of what I’ve achieved in such a short space of time and I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards.
