Ink Spell is a Finalist in the Rossendale Business Awards!
I have some incredibly exciting news to share with you all this month as I found out last week that Ink Spell is a finalist in the Rossendale Business Awards!
The Rossendale Business Awards is an annual showcase for local businesses and enterprising people, organised by Rossendale's Business Association Valley at Work. 2021 is the 12th annual showcase and saw a record number of nominations and entries, with over 250 local businesses nominated for an award, including Ink Spell!
As a new business, I was absolutely overjoyed to have even been nominated and with the record number of entries this year, I wasn't for one moment expecting Ink Spell to make it through to the finals but I worked hard on my application and tried to make it the best representation of who I am and what I do.
The finalists were all announced live on Rossendale Radio on 3rd November. I tuned in on the night but unfortunately, I'd just missed the announcements for the categories I'd entered! So I had to wait for the news to come through on social media the following morning, when I was delighted to learn that Ink Spell is a finalist in the Part-time Business category.
Sponsored by Winters Solicitors of Bacup, the Part-time Business category, "Celebrates the achievements of Rossendale people who have chosen to run a business, social enterprise or community project around the other commitments in their life. Although they are not doing this on a full-time basis, they have achieved the level of success they were looking for." (Rossendale Business Awards, 2021.)
I feel like this sums up Ink Spell perfectly. One of my main motivators for setting up my own freelance copywriting business (aside from my love of writing!) was the flexibility it offers. As a parent, it can be difficult to juggle commitments and find that elusive 'work/life balance.' In the past, I've tried it all - from shift work to regular office hours, working nights or compressed hours, working miles from home or right on my doorstep...but nothing has given me the freedom that running my own part-time business can. That flexibility has been invaluable during the pandemic when school closures, isolations and lockdowns have all meant sudden changes of plan and being freelance has enabled me to continue working throughout.
Running a part-time business allows me to still be present for my children and to juggle the other things going on in my life without feeling as though I'm compromising on my dedication or commitment to my work. I also love that it gives me the option of scaling back my working hours if needed or increasing them as my other commitments allow.
So all in all, having reached the finals in the Part-time Business Category feels like a perfect fit for Ink Spell and I couldn't be happier.
The other finalists in the same category are Clare's Cupcake Co, JJR Video Productions, and Quality Time PA Services, who I'm sure are all as excited as I am to have made it through to the final stage of judging!
The winners will be announced at a special awards evening on 1st December at The Ashcroft in Whitworth and I can't wait to celebrate with all the other fantastic local businesses and find out who this year's winners are.
